The Compact three door hatchback was added in April 2000, completing the E46 range, and the M3 coupe was introduced in June 2000 with the 3.2 liter S54 engine. The Compact would be built until December 2004 and 199,430 were produced, replacing the E36 Compact. The M3 introduced the high performance version to a new generation. The model also gained the Compact, so the E46 was now offered as a sedan, coupe, convertible, wagon and hatchback.
