During 1999 Lincoln fitted two different engines in the Navigator to better match full size SUVs from General Motors, adding the 5.4 liter InTech DOHC V8. In 1999 power adjustable brake and accelerator pedals were added, the previously optional 17 inch wheels became standard, and the instrument cluster gained a digital odometer. At launch its towing capacity was 7,700 pounds with the 5.4 liter Triton V8 and four speed automatic.
