Production of the second generation Scrum ended in December 1998, with only stock sold afterward, and the third generation that met the new kei rules replaced it in January 1999. The Scrum of 1998 was in its eighth year as the second generation, a Mazda branded kei van and truck, an OEM version of the Suzuki Every and Carry with a 42 PS or 64 PS turbo engine. The name Scrum comes from the rugby term, chosen to suggest cooperation among customers and the Mazda group.
