In the fall of 1996 the Mark VIII received a significant facelift for the 1997 model year, featuring smoother, more rounded front and rear fascias and a larger grille, the first major change since its 1992 debut. In September 1996 Alcan Aluminum Limited won a bid to supply hoods for the revised FN10. Internal components of the 4R70W transmission were reinforced in late 1997 models. It was built at Wixom Assembly, where Mark series vehicles were produced from 1958 to 1998.
