For 1997 the dashboard was upgraded with dual airbags, along with revisions to the automatic transmission, as the five speed manual had been dropped after 1995, and the power steering was upgraded to a speed sensitive design. During the 1997 model year the Tahoe was also offered with the Z56 police option using suspension components from the discontinued 454SS truck, available at first only in two wheel drive.
