For the 1996 model year the second-generation Range Rover reached more buyers, 1996 being the model year in which one source places its introduction, based on the long-wheelbase chassis of the Classic with the updated Rover V8 or the BMW 2.5-litre diesel. The P38A was the first Range Rover to have satellite navigation as an option and its R380 manual or ZF automatic gearbox came from the late Classic and the 300Tdi Discovery.
