Production of the Mark VI ended in August 1996 as the Mark VII replaced it. In that year the Mini was sold with the 1275 cc engine and the single point fuel injection of the 1.3i and the Cooper, in a market where Japan was a key export market. The Mini was still a two door four seat small car of 1959 vintage, built by the Rover Group at Longbridge. The Mark VII followed in the autumn with its new dashboard and airbag.
