Honda introduced the Orthia in February 1996 as what it called a Sport Utility Wagon, sold through either Honda Primo or Honda Verno dealerships. A badge on the trunk of the 1996 models, a V or a P, shows whether it is a Verno or a Primo, with amber and red taillights and round fog lights on the Verno and clear and red taillights with rectangular fog lights on the Primo. The trims at launch were the GX, the 2.0GX, the 2.0GX 4WD and the 2.0GX-S.
