The first Ford Ka was introduced on September 11, 1996 as a small and low cost addition to the Ford range. It evolved from concept vehicles to production with minor changes, and the design borrowed from Ghia's Saetta show car, a roadster. The vehicle was manufactured on the existing Fiesta production line in Almussafes, and its large one piece moulded bumpers and wheel arches made it more durable and easier to repair. It was built on the Fiesta production line at Almussafes in Spain.
