The final E series model, the EL Falcon, was released in October 1996, a facelift of the EF intended to keep sales strong until the sixth generation AU Falcon. The return of the grille on the GLi and Futura spec levels was the most obvious change. The XH series utility and van, released in 1996, were essentially XG models facelifted to resemble the contemporary EF sedans and wagons, with an all new front suspension and rack and pinion steering.
