The second generation Paseo was introduced in Japan in 1995, and a convertible model built by ASC was shown at the October 1995 Tokyo Motor Show. The first generation had been made until 1995. This was the first model year of the Toyota Paseo (second generation, L50), 1995 to 1999, which took over from the Toyota Paseo (first generation, L40); the 1996 model year follows it.
