From the 1995 model year the GS DOHC model was dropped from the lineup, and the Galant Sports liftback was discontinued in November 1995 because of the lack of demand. The seventh generation Galant, the E50 to E80 series, was in its last year in Japan, built in Japan and at Normal, Illinois, for North America, and about to be replaced by the eighth generation of 1996. The Galant evolved from a compact sedan into a mid-size car over its life.
