A motorized shoulder belt was added to the front passenger seating position of United States market Acclaims in 1994, to comply with the federal requirement for passive restraints. These belts did not comply with Canada's safety standards, so Canadian cars kept a manual belt. Production of the Acclaim and the Dodge Spirit ended on December 9, 1994. The Acclaim was by now one of the last derivatives of the K car platform still being built, and the replacement for the Reliant and Caravelle line.
