The Eclipse was redesigned in 1994 for the 1995 model year, so 1994 was the last year of the first generation, with 6 bolt and 7 bolt engines and the updated sheet metal of 1992, still sold with the Eagle Talon and the Plymouth Laser. The first generation Eclipse is rated by the NHTSA for crash tests, and was built in Normal, Illinois, by Diamond-Star Motors. In Japan the first two generations were sold through the Mitsubishi Car Plaza retail chain.
