From 1994 the Prelude's Si VTEC name was shortened to VTEC, which it stayed for the rest of the generation, so the 1994 year marks the change of naming. From 1994 onward the speedometer and tachometer needles were translucent. Formula One used the Prelude as its safety car at the 1994 Japanese Grand Prix. All VTEC and SE models received leather interior, and an 8 speaker Gathers DSP audio system was featured.
