For 1994 a turbodiesel V8 was introduced for the first time in this generation, as the 6.5 liter V8 replaced the 6.2 liter V8 that was last offered in 1991. The model line also got an exterior update in 1994, along with multiple functional updates. The Suburban was by then a three row, full pickup frame SUV that Chevrolet marketed alongside the shorter Blazer. The Suburban of this period was offered in half ton 1500 and three quarter ton 2500 series.
