The eighth generation Suburban was introduced in December 1991 for 1992, moving from the Rounded Line chassis to the GMT400 architecture. There was no diesel engine available for the 1992 and 1993 Suburbans, after the 6.2 liter V8 diesel was last offered in 1991. The new generation kept the three rows of seating, the full pickup truck frame and the V8 engines of the full size SUV that the Suburban had been since 1967.
