The FD RX-7 went on sale in the United States and Canada for the 1993 model year, offered as a two seater in base, Touring and R1 packages, all with the sequential twin turbo engine. It was Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year and Playboy's Car of the Year for 1993, and began a three year run on the Car and Driver Ten Best list. In the United Kingdom Mazda cut the price to 25,000 pounds from 32,000. The sequential twin turbo system was extremely complex and was developed with the aid of Hitachi.
