The Bongo of 1993 was in its eleventh year of the third generation, the cabover van sold in Japan, with the Bongo Brawny alongside. The Bongo was also sold by Ford in Asia as the Spectron for the passenger version and as the J80 for the cargo model. Nissan would begin selling the Bongo as the Vanette from 1994. It also formed the basis for the long running Kia Bongo range. The Bongo was also known as the Ford Econovan and Eunos Cargo, and it has been built with rear, middle and front mounted engines.
