The Courier van of 1993 had a front engine, front wheel drive layout with a 1.3 litre overhead valve petrol engine or a 1.8 litre overhead cam diesel, in a body based on the Mark III Fiesta that had been introduced in 1989. The Mazda based pickup Courier also continued in Australia that year. It began as a sedan delivery, became a Mazda built compact pickup, and later a Fiesta based van and coupe utility. The Courier was a Ford nameplate used on very different vehicles in different places and years, from sedan deliveries to pickups and vans.
