An internal bonnet release was fitted to the Mini from 1992, replacing the exterior catch of the original design. The Mark VI, with its 1275 cc fuel injected Cooper and the Mini 1.3i, was now in its third year, a car that the Rover Group, owned by British Aerospace until 1994, kept in production at Longbridge even though it had been designed in the 1950s. The Mini was by then more than thirty years old.
