The Crown Victoria was launched on 21 March 1991 as a 1992 model, with a major exterior redesign in the manner of the first generation Taurus, no-grille front end and aero look, while retaining the previous chassis. The new 4.6 liter overhead cam Modular V8 replaced the old 302 small block, and four wheel disc brakes were fitted. It was offered only as a four door sedan, with the wood trimmed LTD Country Squire wagon discontinued, and fleet sales were postponed fourteen months.
