For 1991 the hatchback base submodel was split into the entry level America, or S on Canadian market versions, and the mid level Highline submodels. A convertible version of the Shadow debuted in the same year, but this body style was not offered by Plymouth. The Sundance was built at Sterling Heights Assembly in Michigan and continued to be sold with the RS model and the turbocharged 2.5 liter engine option.
