The new Rover Metro using the Rover brand was finally launched in May 1990, being a heavily revised version of the original Metro, with Project R6 a more modest update of the 1980 car, keeping the basic bodyshell but adding new plastic front and rear bumpers, new front wings, new rear lights and bootlid, new headlamps and bonnet. Its styling was influenced by Ital Design. The Rover Metro was built by the Rover Group at Longbridge.
