The Vectra was introduced in October 1988 for the 1989 model year as a replacement for the Opel Ascona C, as a four door notchback saloon, with a five door hatchback arriving in March 1989. The 1989 Vectra came in Base, LS, GL, GLS, CD and GT models. Two four wheel drive versions were added to the lineup in January 1989 with either of the two 2 liter engines. The 1989 Vectra was the first model year of the car that replaced the Ascona, sold as a Vauxhall Cavalier in Britain.
