The Crown became the first Toyota that could be had with an airbag, in 1988. A narrow angle twin cam variant of the two liter inline six, the 1G-FE, also replaced the two valve 1G-E in most applications from September. It was model year 2 of 4 in the Toyota Crown (eighth generation, S130), 1987 to 1990, coming after the 1987 model year and before the 1989 model year.
