The 1988 model year brought the Festiva to the United States, with Kia exporting cars built in South Korea under the Ford name from late 1987. A single 1.3 litre four cylinder engine was offered with L, L Plus and LX trim, and the two base cars had a four speed manual gearbox. The Festiva was a small Mazda designed hatchback that Ford sold in several markets, some of them under other names. Kia in South Korea built most of the cars sold under the Festiva and Aspire names, and sold the same design as the Pride and the Avella.
