In only six months in 1987 Lincoln managed to sell over 76,000 1987 Town Cars. Ford started sales of the 1988 Town Car in March 1987, which made for an 18 month model year for 1987 and a record in 1988. The Town Car was the best selling Lincoln, using the 150 horsepower 302 V8 with sequential fuel injection and a four speed overdrive automatic. It was built at Wixom Assembly in Michigan alongside the Lincoln Continental. Its 302 cubic inch V8 was marketed as a 5.0 liter engine.
