For 1987 the Fifth Avenue received a new steering wheel and was the final year for optional alloy wheels, two tone paint and the rear stereo amplifier. From mid 1987 through mid 1989 the cars were built at the American Motors plant in Kenosha, Wisconsin, which Chrysler had purchased in 1987. Production fell to 70,579 cars as the market for rear wheel drive sedans shrank, down from over 100,000 in each of the two previous years.
