For 1987 the engine was changed to the LG3 with roller lifters rather than flat lifters, and power increased to 150 horsepower while the torque remained unchanged. This was replaced by the LN3, with power and torque up to 165 horsepower and 210 pound feet, thanks to multi port fuel injection and balance shafts, and used from 1988 until 1990. The Riviera of 1987 was a front drive unibody coupe. The 1987 Riviera was the second year of the downsized seventh generation.
