In January 1986 Toyota marketed a limited edition model of the AE86 known as the Black Limited, with only 400 units, based on the facelifted Sprinter Trueno GT-APEX three door liftback. A high mounted brake light was added behind the rear windshield for North America for the 1986 model year. It was the last model year covered for the Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE85 and AE86 series), 1983 to 1986, and the Toyota Sprinter Trueno (AE91 and AE92 series) came next, following the 1985 model year.
