Cowley in England built the British market Legend from 1986 until 1988, but few of those cars met Honda's quality control standards, so only 4,409 were made, while every US market Legend came from Japan. The Legend V6Xi served as the Suzuka Circuit's pace car for 1986, and from 1986 the Legend was the flagship of Honda's Acura division in North America. Notable owners of the first generation included Soichiro Honda, the founder of Honda, and Ayrton Senna.
