A four speed automatic transmission was added in April 1985, and Mitsubishi Australia released the NC series in November 1985, introducing optional power steering, while the long wheelbase five door changed to a low roofed design. The first generation Pajero was in its fourth year on sale, with the three door short wheelbase wagon and five door long wheelbase in Japan and abroad. The Pajero shared Mitsubishi's heavy duty Super Select four wheel drive system with a few other models later.
