Four wheel drive became an option for the Colt Vista in the United States in the spring of 1985. In Japan the pricier MF and MT four wheel drive models changed in mid 1985 to a five speed manual and on demand four wheel drive that used a viscous coupling to send power to the rear wheels when slip was detected, in place of the 4x2 Super Shift transmission. The Chariot was sold in most export markets as the Mitsubishi Space Wagon.
