In 1984 the York diesel engine was redesigned into the 2.5 liter direct injection unit, the main engineering change of the Mark II. The Transit was still sold with the longer nose introduced in 1977 and the in line Pinto petrol engines, and was built in Southampton and Genk. Ford gave the long running design a final lift before its replacement, the VE6 of January 1986, which was an all new bodyshell.
