The fifth generation Sprinter was based on the 1983 fifth generation E80 Corolla range. Each generation of the Corolla had a corresponding Sprinter sibling, sold only in Japan at Toyota Auto Store. This was the first model year of the Toyota Sprinter (fifth generation, E80), 1983 to 1986, which took over from the Toyota Sprinter (fourth generation, E70); the 1984 model year follows it. Model year pages for the Toyota Sprinter run from 1968 to 2000.
