The 1983 model year was the last for the second generation Challenger, which was marketed together with the Sapporo until the Mitsubishi Starion based Conquest replaced them, using the same rear drive platform through 1989. In 1984 the front drive Laser and Daytona took the sporty coupe role. The Challenger name then stayed unused until 2008. The Conquest that replaced it used the rear drive platform of the Mitsubishi Starion through 1989.
