For 1982 the R body line was discontinued and the New Yorker nameplate moved to the smaller M body line, whose Chrysler version had been sold as the LeBaron. The Fifth Avenue option was a 1,244 dollar package on the New Yorker with a distinctive vinyl roof, electroluminescent opera lamps and a rear fascia adapted from the Dodge Diplomat, plus tufted Kimberley velvet or Corinthian leather seats. A total of 50,509 were made, and it was the last year for the AM FM eight track stereo.
