1979 Mercury Marquis

Automobiles

For the 1979 model year Mercury introduced the third generation Marquis on the Ford Panther platform, the first ground up redesign of the full size range since 1969. It shed 17 inches in length and over 1,000 pounds of curb weight, using the same 114.3 inch wheelbase as the Ford LTD. The standard engine was a 4.9 L V8, a rebranded 302, with a 5.8 L V8 as an option, paired with a three speed SelectShift automatic. It was offered as a two door sedan, a four door sedan and a five door station wagon.
