For 1979 the Bronco saw little change from 1978, but rectangular headlamps, which had been introduced on the Ranger trim for 1978, became standard on all Broncos, along with the F-Series, and taller captain's chair front seats became an option. Ford added emissions controls, with a catalytic converter on both V8 engines. A Free-Wheelin' package, with tricolor striping and blacked out trim, was offered, with revised striping for 1979.
