1978 Mercury Bobcat

Automobiles

In 1978 the Bobcat continued as the Mercury version of the Pinto. That year the Pinto was no longer the smallest Ford sold in the United States, as the company introduced the Fiesta, the first front wheel drive car sold by Ford in the United States. On June 9, 1978 Ford recalled 1.5 million Ford Pintos and Mercury Bobcats, the largest recall in automotive history at the time. The Bobcat was built at Edison Assembly in New Jersey, St. Thomas Assembly in Ontario and San Jose Assembly in California.
