In 1977 the steering column was moved two inches closer to the dashboard for a more arms out driving position, and black paint, last offered in 1969, returned. The Stingray script that had been on the front fenders since 1969 disappeared, and crossed flags emblems began to appear on the fenders. Chevrolet reached a milestone that year of half a million Corvettes built since 1953. The single snorkel air intake used since 1976 remained, and a steering wheel color keyed to the interior was fitted to cars without a tilt wheel.
