The 1976 Corvette had steel floor panels to shield the floor from the heat of the catalytic converter exhaust, and a new rear nameplate on the bumper cover replaced the individual Corvette letters used since 1968. Cast aluminum wheels, optional since 1976, would later be ordered on most cars, and Car and Driver recorded 6.8 seconds to 60 miles per hour in both L48 and L82 four speed cars. Cast aluminum wheels, tried on the pilot cars of 1973 and 1974, were finally available to buyers as an option from 1976.
