The Mark IV was introduced in 1976, though by this stage British Leyland was working on a new small car which was widely expected to replace the Mini before much longer. It kept the shape of earlier cars. The Mark IV was made at Longbridge in Birmingham and sold as a basic Mini, Clubman or 1275 GT, with a two door four seat body and a transverse engine and front wheel drive. The Mark IV replaced the Mark III and carried the series forward into the 1980s.
