In 1976 a half cab design was introduced and used until 1991. The Blazer was marketed as a half cab pickup with a removable rear top, rather like a three door station wagon, in the rounded line generation, which the public nicknamed the square body. Although rear wheel drive Blazers were manufactured until 1982, most sold were four wheel drive. The 1976 Blazer had the half cab design, which lasted until 1991.
