The 1974 Monte Carlo received minor detail changes, most notably a revised egg crate grille, flush mount taillights and a relocated license plate and trunk lock. A 400 cubic inch Turbo Fire small block V8 reappeared on the options list for the first time since 1970. Despite the Arab oil embargo of late 1973 and early 1974, which cut into sales of intermediates, the Monte Carlo set a new sales record of over 300,000 units.
