The 1974 model featured new chrome grilles made of die cast steel, and single rectangular taillights replaced the dual round items on all coupes and sedans, with more massive rear bumpers added under stricter federal standards. The Laguna became the Laguna Type S-3 and was available only as a coupe, combining Laguna luxury with the upgraded handling of the SS it replaced, and the new upscale trim level was the Malibu Classic. The base Deluxe series was dropped.
