In late 1973 the Mark III was given a facelift and renamed the TD. The biggest change was a flatter new dashboard with the instruments under a glass hood and improved ergonomics, replacing the steeply sloped original, and the design carried over to the Mark IV and Mark V. The car remained the UK's top seller, with trims from Base through L, XL, GT and GXL and 1300, 1600 and 2000 cc engines, with the 2000 cc engine being the single overhead cam unit now known as the Pinto engine and found in many Fords of the time.
