Production of the Zephyr and Zodiac ended in 1972, when they were replaced by the Consul and Granada models, a genuine pan European effort. In New Zealand production ended in 1972, and the Consul and Granada replacements were never officially imported there. The Zephyr was the last car to be independently designed by Ford of Britain, closer integration with Ford Werke of Cologne already having started. The Zephyr was an executive car from Ford of Britain, with the Zodiac and the Executive as luxury variants.
