The Biscayne was discontinued after 1972, which demoted the Bel Air to the low level model of the full size Chevrolet range. Bel Airs again used two segmented taillights, in place of the triple segmented lights of the higher Impala and Caprice models, except in 1972 when all models shared the same triple segmented lights mounted in the bumper. The Bel Air remained available to retail customers who sought a basic full size car better trimmed than the Biscayne.
